Having weathered the storms of the winter months, it’s time for all of us to come out of hibernation and embrace the warmer weather of Spring and Summer. While many of us will be looking for the slightest opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy more of the fresh air, you’ll find that with the right preparation, your home can be just as enjoyable when the sunshine finally hits.
Here are our top tips to help you get your home ready for the warmer months.
With all the fresh air in the atmosphere and temperature starting to rise, it’s time to open your windows and introduce some long-awaited clarity into your home’s atmosphere.
No one really wants to go outside during winter to wash their windows. It’s cold, wet, and your windows become more susceptible to dirt. Now it’s getting warmer, it’s time to get your windows sparkling and allow all the natural light to enter your home.
Another way of making your home feel lighter and more airy is to change your curtains during the warmer seasons. There’s no need for heavier, darker curtains when the temperature goes up, so it’s worth looking for alternatives with lighter colours and more lightweight fabrics or even blinds.
Plants and flowers are a great way to inject some life and vibrancy into your home. Grow some flowers inside and make use of the increase of sunlight, or simply cut some blooming branches from your garden and pot them indoors.
The floral theme doesn’t have to stop at including plants around your house. There are plenty of options to let it run throughout your house, such as floral quilts, botanicals, and fake plants for those who may suffer from any allergies or want the look and feel of plants without the maintenance.
It’s natural to end up with too much stuff in your house after winter. After Christmas and even Easter, your home may be in need of a Spring clean. Review everything in your cupboards and wardrobes and clear out any unwanted or unneeded items. It’s amazing how great a declutter in the home can feel! You can also do your bit for the environment by donating any unwanted clothes, toys or trinkets to charity shops and ensuring any bulky items are properly recycled at your local refuse site.
The start of Spring always feels like a new beginning. The sun is shining more regularly, and more plants and trees start to blossom again. This year, it might be time to give your interior a reshuffle so that you really can move onto new beginnings.
When you think you’ve got everything in the right place, don’t be afraid to change it all around again. Rearranging your furniture is about finding the layout that works for you. You find you want to move an armchair in a spot that gets the best light at the height of Summer, or look at new furniture to make spaces feel cleaner and neater.
You don’t have to maintain your dark colour schemes during Spring and Summer. Springtime is often a time that we decide to embark on our DIY ideas and revamp rooms in our home. This is the perfect time as its warm enough to let our homes breathe and open windows and patios doors. Take inspiration from the warm temperatures and foliage outside and add bright colours or earthy tones throughout your home. You can even look at injecting colour into your garden with painted fences, trellis’ and furniture.
